This, in my opinion is some of the coolest new additions to cloud computing. Sure the office apps in the cloud are a dime a dozen today and storing your document, photos and data in the cloud is yesterday's news, but this changes everything. For me anyway. Sorry its been forever since I've posted anything related to... well, anything really. It's been hard to justify some of the energy I used to put into blogging daily even though I know once I get into it, I really enjoy it and honestly, I've missed it a lot.
Well today I feel compelled to post something that I found that I thought might be very valuable to all the artists I know that are in my neighborhood. At least, the ones that like to keep up a stock art portfolio online like I do, such as one like my own on istockphoto . Granted I make a very small, but regular income from it. The only reason it is so small is my own fault, I am very casual about it and haven't added new items to the collection often enough like some of my friends such as Kenn Wislander here.
The newest site is called Graphic Leftovers, and the reason it is intriguing to me, is because I am interested in how their payouts work. On the surface it looks very lucrative:

I have a new job. Not one that replaces my full time one, but the "fun" one. I've been doing avatars for a social app called Social Smack! Its a social game/application where you can prop or drop your favorite brands or just about anything you want, and talk about why you love them and everyone else should or why everyone else should pick up their signs and rant about another product or brand. Its just getting started, but I highly recommend checking it out, and that's not just because I am an artist on the team (although I think that makes it even more cool :P ) but because it actually gets quite addicting! Not only does it allow you to prop/drop brands but it ties in with your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts so you can proliferate the Web with your opinions... hey, isn't that what we, the consumers, love to do anyway? LOL. But seriously.. its a fun thing.

Media Militia's latest contribution to the design community is an article that gives you what they call "natural photoshop brushes" but what I'd more appropriately tag as "Elements of Nature". Why? Because natural brushes says to me, that they act like natural paint brushes in their behavior whereas these brushes actually allow you to paint the elements and/or things of nature such as trees and the like. Mind you, some of these are stylish renditions and others are realistic. Enjoy! Check out their article after the samples below.

You may or may not know that I read an online comic called Mega Tokyo, by Fred Gallagher. Its a manga-style comic (very well done, I might add) that is just hilarious and interesting, with a mix of crazy fanboy stuff, related to Japanese culture.
One such crazy idea is a robot girl (forget the name at the mo') that is made by Sony, who is intended to be a companion and a game at the same time, or something to that effect. Over the course of the story things happen and she tends to be more "human" than you'd expect from a robot.
Anyhoo, long story short, the concept of a robot friend tends to be a fascinating one until... you start seeing that the day where the creation of the real thing is a possibility is drawing near. Let me introduce I-Fairy, unveiled at the 2010 CES show. Funny thing is, take a look at the image the follows which is, of course courtesy of MegaTokyo. Ok here is my latest sketch, this one's ready for vectorizing in Illustrator. I've done it completely in Sketchbook Pro 2010 so far. I won't do the colorizing of this one in SBP because its for istockphoto and has to be in vector format. I'll post progress as it gets done. Vectorizing is pretty quick anymore unless I use gradient meshes. Not this time though :P
